"remember them"
i'm finally really happy today :))))) and it feels like my grin can stretch all the way to orchard and back.
after yesterday's ultra depressing gek1525 test (which i think i will flunk/get very bad grade) and a huge upset with goof last week, i received news that i got the highest for nm3219's white paper assignment in the entire cohort - 95 marks. well it's just too bad that when super nice raaj announced my name out loud in lecture today to award me with a movie voucher, i was not ard to walk down the lt steps and enjoy my 15 seconds of fame. i was stuck in as7, busy rushing another one of 3219's seemingly endless assignments. lol. i wonder how the scene was like. you seldom see the "winners" (that's how i see it - like a contest) being absent for his lectures only to pop up later and then claim their reward. and naturally, raaj "tsktsk"-ed me abt it when i appeared in the lt afterwards for a project meeting.
to tell the truth, i've always secretly coveted to "win". can you imagine how lucrative that can be? a 4% assignment entitles you a chance to win movie/tcc/thatcdshop voucher! not like it's a backbreaking 3000-word essay or whatever. usually just a 3- or 4-page double-spaced thingy. it was my main fuel for wanting to not just complete nm2219 and subsequently nm3219 assignments, but excelling and doing my best for each one. i often missed the mark and it grew kinda hopeless. that desire got somewhat forgotten of late as i got more preoccupied with handing up on time. heh.
so i was really surprised to hear that i nailed it. and it was extra special cos it was the bloody 6-12 pages assignment i felt like giving up on at 4 am on the day of the 5pm deadline. if not for goof's urging and his brilliant ideas, i doubt i would've even get started. i owe it to him for his pushing and patience when i was being my frustrated, irritated self. yay happy. and this is the kind of personal satisfaction love can't give you.
goof and i made up today on our 23-mth anniversary which marks the day different from all the other usual celebratory ones. more meaningful and poignant i would say. we caught 300 and since we're both not the avid movie-goer type who would catch all the latest movies first (like tj's matt? hah), it's been a long while since i last watched sth within a week of its official release.
300 is great. it's a total guy flick, judging from the innumerous times goof said "shuai" during the movie and how he's all geared up to beef up now. and the fact that he didn't once yawn or doze off unlike at the romcom chick flicks i usually dragged him to and despite his headache and long day of classes. lots of limbs chopped off and decapitations. thanks to the generous spillage of computer-generated blood, it wasn't as scary as i expected and i managed to keep my eyes open and mouth shut most of the time. i admire their valour and fearlessness. what's it like to face fear/death head-on, with laughter and derision and nonchalence? "prepare for glory" is their euphemism for death. how optimistic, how truly, glorious. the theme of honour and sacrifice. the most mindblowing fact is that this story is fact; it did happen. well you could say that they are brainwashed for sure but their single-mindedness and ferocity took my breath away. i find that strangely sexy and alluring.
i couldn't for the life of me be like them in real life. yes i'd be like the cowardly arcadian and usher my loved ones to safety. it would break me, to see them vanquished for the sake of ideals... nothing but some airy fairy empty talk.
goof was busy admiring their 8-packs and telling me after how they are different; some are nicer than the others. i thought they all looked the same - bulging 8-pack stomach and a heaving bosom. but no, gerard butler was the coolest and had the hottest bod, apparently. according to goof. oh well at least the computer animators did a good job at differentiating the men's physique.
little things you do
they tell me you miss me
well i miss you too
