i've developed a hypersensitivity for cockroaches.
ever since on friday when
the granddaddy of all roaches flew out from the back of my cupboard
it spans all of 12-freaking-cm (!!!)
had me yelling all sorts of expletives at it
running hysterically to my neighbour's for reinforcements
since it caught me oh-so-vulnerably-helplessly-home-alone
we held it captive with a mini fishing net
and would you believe it
my neighbour refuse to annihilate it
HOW CAN!
she's either mother teresa's incarnate or simply loony.
given its monstrosity
a few hard whacks would only render unconsciousness
and roaches are notorious for their miraculous regeneration powers.
still gives me the shudders.
later my dad had the cheek to agree that we shouldn't kill it
"perhaps it's your grandma's spirit visiting."
"................."
oops, i just crushed an ant
oh maybe i have just killed 3rd grand uncle too.
sheesh.
really, nonsense leh.
then two days later
i was home alone (again),
therefore being easy prey for roach scares,
and just my luck
i glanced upon one (this time, average sized) sneakily creeping on my tv set!
one long string of curses followed
and i was, really freaking pissed.
luckily mum aka the champion roach exterminator
(she's better than baygon, serious)
returned home in the nick of time.
then there's a series baby roach episodes
but those i can handle
just that they scurry away real fast
which, in itself, is just as damn annoying.
now i just freeze at anything black and seedy-looking
stunned into momentary paralysis
and occasionally let out a bloodcurdling scream
yep that's how traumatised i am
goof's left bewildered by my paranoia
after freaking out on him twice in a day
and it makes my skin crawl just to think (sorry pun)
i might just touch something a roach had once lingered upon
sharing living quarters
whilst they lurk in some dark corner smirking gleefully.
if the situation worsens,
i would have no qualms calling in exterminators.
my husband has to be firm on pest control
not like dad
fancy being such a softie over bugs.
no fair
engine has ended their lectures already
and no doubt, beginning to fill up study areas of yih and libraries once more
